Next session we are going to do a deeper dive on various social media platforms but today I want to look at just a few particular items about Facebook in particular.
Firstly, understand something very crucial. The more people interact with your personal or business page, the more likely they are to see your posts. However, your personal posts are seen far more often than your business page posts. In fact, Facebook has a restriction on the number of people who organically see your business page posts, and it is around 5% of your followers. That means if you have 200 people following your business page, maybe 10 are even going to see it, let alone engage with it. Great content is important, but unless you are paying Facebook to promote your posts, very few people will see it. Facebook is a pay to play platform!
What follows is a very basic tutorial on generating traffic for your website using Facebook. Next session, we will work with more items in depth and with other social media platforms.
Your Personal Facebook Page Below is my personal Facebook page. What I want to point to here, though, are my links to my business pages. Be sure to do so since you certainly want your friends and relatives, those closest to you, to like your page. This is particularly important since when you boost a post you can boost to those who like a page and THEIR FRIENDS!
Your Business Pages
Below is my Travelhoppers Facebook Business page. Note here I have a link to my website. This is so important! Do not have a business page without a link to your website. You want to drive people to your website! Next week we will cover HOW to advertise with a minimal investment, but look how well this has served Travelhoppers we have about 16,000 followers, the vast majority of whom are consumers. How did we do that? With the very same content we provide many of you at Voyager. We have spent years learning from great social media marketers how to accomplish these things. Here are two travel companies I highly recommend studying:
The secret to successful social media marketing for a business is 1) building a sense of community through 2) inspiration.
If you look at the Facebook business pages of G Adventures and Intrepid Travel, both companies use great photography, video and social consciousness to create a community among like minded travelers. We want to appeal to the intellect, certainly, but we want to strike some emotional chords as well.
You can do the same. For example, look at this post we experimented with on Travelhoppers:
These rather spectacular results were the result of a $20 investment. The high number of shares accounts for almost 40,000 people reached for $20.
The audience we boosted this "Plane Ticket" post to was as follows:
Note our choices here were national in scope (United States), but it is possible to bring it down to a state, city, cities, or even zip codes.
Let's give the simple act of boosting a post from your Facebook business page a try.
1. Choose one of these Voyager Website memes to post. You should be able to drag one from the slideshow to your desktop. Then, upload it to your Facebook page.
2. Publish the post, then click the "Boost" button on the post. 3. Choose this Audience for the first post: People who like your Page and their friends 4. Spend between $2 - $5 and run it for two days. 5. Pick a second meme and boost it using the same Audience criteria as we set out in our "Plane Ticket" post above, but instead of United States, choose your city or town. 6. Be sure to track your results!
